The school was started with the purpose of providing a much-needed basic foundation centre for the children of Shanthinagar. It may be mentioned that the neighborhood did not have such a school until the arrival of First Discovery on the scene, with the result that parents were compelled to seek such schools at great distance from their homes, thereby causing considerable hardship to both them and their children.

First Discovery thus solves many problems: it provides a safe haven for children within walking distance of their homes, it relieves their parents of traffic worries, and above all, it guarantees excellent educational grounding for children through highly skilled teaching.

First Discovery is different from other institutions: it is a ‘concept’ school, where the methods of imparting knowledge are through encouraging children to discover things for themselves, by allowing them to see patterns and logic and thereby arrive at the concepts underlying nature, language and the world. The school has a modern infrastructure with Montessori Material which taps intelligence of a child learning which enables all-round development. The aids that are provided and designed are based on suggestions given by experts in the field provide an excellent basis for educating the child. They are used for learning a variety of concepts pertaining to language development, alphabet, counting. Colors identification, eye-hand co-ordination for a variety of other functions.

The teaching faculty, headed by Ms. Reshma, are all trained and qualified, and they all posses one extremely vital attribute, viz. an empathy with and a love for children. Therefore, parents need have no worries whatsoever about their ward.

The play area is hygienically maintained and allows children to enjoy themselves with all modern equipments.

We encourage children to eat healthy with our programs such as the healthy morning. On request from the parents we can provide the services of an acclaimed nutritionist to give the parents the information of the child’s nutrition.

At First Discovery we provide children with the foundation for acquiring knowledge besides encouraging them to bring out their talent.

We work with materials which tap the intelligence of a child, thereby enabling the child’s overall development. The aids used for education are designed based on the suggestions given by experts in the field. They provide an excellent base for nurturing the child’s mind. They facilitate learning different concepts pertaining to language development, alphabets, numerical ability, color identification, eye-hand coordination, and other multiple functions. We provide a cheerful and happy environment for all our children as we believe in “Education & Fun”, and this is where it all begins.

Having acquired training and work experience in the Montessori System in the United States of America (USA), we transfer similar knowledge and training to our teachers.

Social life at First Discovery:

Children prefer each other’s company to dolls and they prefer “real” utensils to toys. While working with objects such as real brushes for cleaning and real carpets to sweep, children attain real skills that allow them to participate fully in the activities both at home and at school. Children derive lot  of joy from constructive activities that satisfy their inner wants, that it seems to onlookers as if they are playing. When they have the opportunity to realize their own development, they become, as First Discovery describes, “supremely happy”. Acquiring new skills and new knowledge changes children and they will no longer remain discontented.


At First Discovery the curriculum focuses on key developmental milestones in children and we target on honing massive muscle and language skills. Children master the art of writing under the guidance of the adult-in-charge. Because the teacher does not run the classroom, they simply guide children about the activities they do throughout the day. Children at First Discovery, by the very nature of the environment, learn to respect one another and build a sense of community.


Children enjoy the classroom and a curriculum designed around their specific needs and abilities that allow them to explore, learn at their own pace and terms. All objects and activities have precise locations on the shelves and everything in the classrooms is within the reach of the children. The furniture is designed and customized keeping in mind the comfort of the children. This setting naturally teaches self-discipline, and it refines important skills like concentration, self-control, and motivation.


Children at First Discovery are allowed to explore activity and concepts at their own pace. This naturally encourages children to try more challenging areas, which accelerate their learning experience. One of the best edges of the Montessori methodology, particularly during the early learning stage, is the focus on hands-on learning.

We emphasize on concrete learning, as opposed to abstract learning, as children work on activities that teach language, math, culture and practical life lessons. We encourage children to focus on tasks and discourage them from interrupting each other, allowing students to focus on activities until they are properly mastered. After completing the activity, they place things back into their applicable places. This sense of order helps in the learning process, teaches self-discipline and caters to a young child’s innate need for an orderly environment. When children work and play in an area that is neat and predictable, they can unleash their creativity focusing completely on the learning process.


Teachers at First Discovery are guides who facilitate learning experience and children are allowed to choose their activities and work with them on their own terms. Creativity in the classroom is encouraged and exposure to a wide variety of cultures encourages children to broaden their thinking about the world, and address those concepts in a variety of ways.
